You are The Light

“I am the light that is above them all, I am the All, The All came forth from Me and the All attained to me.

Cleave a piece of wood and I am there; Lift up a stone and you will find me there.”

Gospel of Thomas

There is only one thing that can give you complete peace and fulfillment in this human life form:

And that is to realize that you don’t belong to it.

This perceived world is not your true home.

It is you who are home to it.

Look back at the center of your being.

Can you find any edge, any limit to consciousness?

How will you fit this infinity that you are

into a universe no thicker than a sheet of paper?

This entire existence is but one page among myriads you have already dreamed into being.

One morning, you spun forth this entire world from within,

as the spider spins its web.

And one day, you will gather it back into yourself.

All the joys you’ve known and the pains you’ve endured will vanish as swiftly as the prick of a mosquito’s bite.

So why worry over this fleeting sensation called life?

As time drifts slowly here, you imagine that what unfolds is of immense importance.

I tell you: this whole universe—from birth to death—

passes in less time than it takes to brush a speck of dust from your shoulder.

What do you think you gain, then,

by accumulating possessions, wealth,

relationships, or clinging to this deteriorating body?

It’s only your attachments that make it feel as though there is change,

But nothing is really happening.

Nothing is going anywhere.

This that is here is just an experiment—one among many.

You are neither part of it, nor a product of it.

You are the Witness. The Absolute.

And that is why all the great sages could not help but laugh when they remembered their true nature.

The joke is us taking everything so seriously, weaving so much more drama than needed—

and missing out completely on who and what we truly are.
